EN 3005 - History of the English Language This course examines the external history of the English language - the political, social and technological forces that have shaped it, as well as the internal history - the effects of those forces on the sound system (phonol- ogy), structure (syntax) and vocabulary. Chronologically arranged texts from Old English to Present-Day English serve as sample material for the course. 3 hours Lecture and Discussion
