CJ 2010 - Reentry & Desistance Pathways


The purpose of this course is to examine the lived realities of what occurs after one is released back into the community following a period of criminal justice system involvement. Specifically, this course will explore the challenges faced within the reentry process that influence the likelihood of successful reintegration back into society, including barriers such as housing, employment, relationships, and drug use. Additionally, this course will present varying perspectives regarding what leads individuals to desist from crime following release and what supports are needed to assist reentering individuals from the perspective of the individual, the family, and the community.
