LA 4117 - Environmental Law and Policy

This course is intended to provide students with a basic introduction to environmental law and policy-making. Students will explore how environmental policies are developed and implemented, and the consequences of that result. Environmental issues touch almost all aspects of life, and our action (or inaction) in response also has broad-reaching implications. Rarely is there a clear answer on how to proceed, and students will learn to recognize and analyze all sides of the issues in order to better understand the complexity of policy-making. Topics covered include: the regulation of water, air, solid waste, toxis substances, energy (both traditional and renewable), climate change, endangered species and open space. The course will utilize real-life case studies to understand these issues more generally.
