SLP 6080 - Augmentative and Alternative Communication

This course will introduce Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) for individuals of all ages, presenting with a range of abilities, communication challenges, and areas of need. The course will cover many topics related to AAC with a focus on ways in which the individual, their communication partners and stakeholders, and their environments impact the AAC tools and strategies trialed, prescribed, and implemented, and the services rendered. The various topics will include use of no-tech, mid-tech, and high-tech AAC, including assessment processes and intervention techniques for toddlers, school-aged individuals, and adults are examined. 3 credits.
