ES 1050 - Horsemanship I


This course is an introduction to riding and horse management for the beginner. Safety is paramount and coursework will include an orientation to stable rules and procedures including; horse handling, grooming, polo wrapping, and proper saddle and bridle fit.  Students will also learn how to properly cool out in warm weather and correct procedures for cold weather. The riding in the class will emphasize safety and control.  Emphasis will be placed upon establishing a proper, balanced riding position in the walk and the trot and developing a secure two-point position on the flat as well as over poles.  The riders will be able to ride as a group at the walk and trot and will be introduced to the canter individually by the end of the semester.
