LAES 1203 - Soil Biology


Soil Biology introduces the student to life in the soil.  The function of each group of soil organisms, e.g., bacteria, fungi, protozoa, nematodes, micro arthropods, earthworms and higher animals will be explained.  Management practices to assure presence and activity of beneficial species and reduced activity of pathogens, pests and weeds will be covered.  Production, application, and monitoring methods for compost, liquid biological amendments, and bio-control agents will be included.  Microscope methods for assessing organisms in soil, compost, sediments, biological products and food will be taught.
