PS 3001 - Crop Evolution

Crop plants are used to feed, clothe, shelter and inspire us. Knowing how they evolved into what they are today may help us understand how to best utilize them in the future. Evolution of Crop Plants is a short history of last 10,000 years of agriculture. This course takes a multidisciplinary approach, looking at historic, genetic, botanical, linguistic and archeological data to figure out where, what, when, why and how crops were domesticated. The focus is on understanding how to critically evaluate potentially contradictory evidence and try to figure out what holes still exist in our knowledge about where our food really comes from.
