EN 3084 - Genre Writing Workshop


This course is a 3000-level workshop that will provide students an opportunity to explore how elements of composition like vocabulary, adaptation, and style operate according to genre-specific guidelines. Genre is an umbrella term encompassing the most popular fiction on the market (Romance, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Mystery) and also one of many “languages” aspiring writers must speak. In this course students learn the theoretical underpinnings of genre while exploring the techniques specific to the most popular genres on the market. Students will write several major stories in the following genres: . Sci-fi/Fantasy . Romance . Young Adult . Mystery . Contemporary . Mash-Up 3-credits lecture.
